Other Special Cats at HSAR:

Every cat has a story. Read about some of the amazing cats currently visiting HSAR:

Phantom:
I got my name because after being rescued from the streets, my foster mom didn’t see me for a couple of weeks.  I was terrified, but after some time learned that not all humans are mean!

I started greeting my foster mom at the door when she came home and followed her around like a puppy, just to let her know how nice I thought she was!  I started sleeping with her and loved to wake her up at feeding time by laying closer to her head and purring up a storm! She brought me back to the shelter when my social skills had improved, but I still didn’t believe there was more than one nice human in this world and played the Phantom act again!

Now, I am more comfortable with the nice people at Hull Seaside and don’t hide.  I am a little older than most of my roommates will be a whopping five this August and I have had a tough life.  I overheard the vet tell the nice lady who gave me a ride there that at some time I was either hit by a car or abused, and that is why my mouth is a little crooked.  Some people have said they want to call me David after David Bowie – who the heck is that?  Could he really have a mouth like mine?  I love looking out the window and it reminds me of all the time I spent on the streets, but I really love how safe and loved I am.  I know I will become the phantom again when I go to my forever home, but if the humans do what is suggested, I am sure I will begin to trust them quicker than I did my foster mom.  I don’t mind other cats, but kittens are just too much for me at my age.  I guess if you love David Bowie’s looks, you could fall in love with me too (but don’t expect me to sing like him!)

Lucy:
I am a precocious little adult who doesn’t want to grow up!  I had to act like an adult when I had my first litter, but now that they all have wonderful homes, I am keeping my kitten attitude!  I love to play and I can get a little rambunctious, forgetting that humans aren’t a toy, so I don’t think I would do well around young kids, but I am learning!  The space at the shelter is a little small for me, because I really like to run around, but they have this big tree and I can entertain myself wonderfully poking in and about and trying to find all the toys.

I don’t really like other cats (heck – they take some of the attention and might play with my things!), but I have gotten used to being with them, so, I suppose I could adjust to one in your home if you remember to take it slow. I am happy about being spayed because being a mom was a lot of work and I would rather play! So, if you want an almost white cat with kitten-tude, that is me!!

Goldilocks:
I know I belong in pictures! I have stunning long hair that I take very good care of, with orange eyes to match my orange and white fur!  I am a female who didn’t live with very nice people and soon found myself more outside than inside, then always outside.  Some nice neighbors lent me their hallway until the shelter could take me in.  The doctor was very concerned about the fur loss on my neck because it looked like a collar was on too tight and maybe I was even restricted on a leash.  I won’t ever be able to tell you which, but my fur is growing back nicely and that makes me happy.  But don’t try and pick me up by the neck – it doesn’t bring out my better side.  I am really new to nice people and am learning how to be nice back. New smells make me nervous, so I am taking it very slow and need a family that understands that.  I used to live with other animals, but they were all a lot bigger than me and I think I prefer a quieter house with no big bears!

Harley:
Because they gave me a biker name, I figure I have to take it slow getting to know you and show you attitude at first!  Truth be told, I am very friendly, very affectionate and love to play hide and seek under the covers!  In fact, if you go out and I am relaxing, you will almost always find me under a comforter or two when you come home.  I used to live in a house with over 10 cats and a couple of dogs.  It was a big house, but not big enough for me to find privacy, so I wouldn’t mind another cat or maybe two, but that is the maximum number for me!

The folks here didn’t think I knew how to play with toys, or maybe that I didn’t like to – that was just my biker attitude kicking in!  I love when you hide a catnip mouse or a ball under the comforter and make me find it!  And I love when I am hiding under the comforter to try and catch things moving on the top (humans say this is a fun and safe way to use their hands to play, but I know to stop when I see the skin).  I am not too big on being held, but I can be picked up and sometimes like to get comfortable in your lap.  So, maybe you have a Harley outside and would love one inside?
