Tails of Woe
Zeus, The Misfit Cat

Do you remember the Island of Misfit toys in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? How much did you love Dolly, the doll who couldn't cry or the spotted elephant? Well if HSAR had an Island of Misfit Cats, Zeus could be president!! He has a dream of having a home, just like the toys, but it seems his differences have set him back from achieving that dream -- won't you be Zeus' Rudolph and Santa?

Here is his story, grab your tissues; it's a sad one with a hopefully happy ending. In the summer of 2004 a big lug of a guy found his way to HSAR after a difficult life. It has been told that Zeus (not his original name) was owned by some not nice people. They would feed him and make him sleep on a screened porch, never to be let in to the house. This would happen 12 months out of the year, imagine being forced to stay outside in the cold Hull winters.

Soon enough the people packed up all their belongings and moved away. The one thing they didn't pack was our beloved Zeus. He roamed the streets of Hull, having to depend on himself for food, water and shelter. Judging by how he came to HSAR this was not going well.

One of our volunteers had been following Zeus' story for some time and when the owners moved away, she thought they took him with them. Imagine her surprise when she came across the big guy looking beat up and hungry. Her first action was to bring him to us at HSAR where it was LOVE at first site. He unfortunately was a really sick cat at one point. Zues has had many trips to the vet, many medications and even a couple of surgeries to help him become the happy healthy cat he is today!

One of the things people first notice about Zeus is his sweet personality, but it will only go so far! If he is not comfortable with you, or if your other cat isn’t someone he will tolerate,he might be a little aggressive. I would recommend a home without any other cats. He likes to be the center of attention- he is really a ham!! Once he knows and trusts you he is the sweetest guy! He has a great purr and loves his ear and head rubbed!! If you would like to meet him or any of the other cats we have available please call us at 1-877-378-1195!
